Root Canal Treatment ( RCT )

Conditions requiring root canal treatment

1)Irreversible pulpitis-Wherein the pulp( nerves and blood vessels within the tooth) goes into irreversible damage.

2) Chronic pulpitis- Wherin the pulp has undergone necrosis for a period of time leading to infection at the apex of the tooth root.

3) Intentional RCT- Usually carried out by the dentist, incases where there is a high possibility of pulp exposure during any dental procedure.

4) Cases of traumatic accidents leading to fracture of tooth and pulp exposure

  Benefits of Root Canal treatment.

1.Relieves the patient from pain .

2.Eliminates the spread infection from an infected pulp to the surrounding oral tissues.

3.Although the tooth is non living, following RCT, it can can be still maintained in the dental arch which is a great psychological benefit to the patient.

5. Avoids the trauma associated with tooth extaction

Procedure

RCT may range from a single vist to multiple visits, depending upon the case.

2. Shaping and cleaning of root canal

3. Filling of root canal space

4. Permanent restoration
